Playing the El Gordo the Intelligent Way
The Elgordo Lottery is part of the Euromillions Euro lotto, but if that’s all you know that’s a bit thin. This lottery is widely known for jackpots that can match the biggest around the world – payouts as high as two point six billion Euros. Even that isn’t the only thing that is special here. This lottery puts more than thirteen thousand prizes up for grabs, which makes for a one in six chance to win a prize. When compared with the prizes pitched by competing lottos, that’s certainly not bad!
Once per month the Euromillions Euro lotto holds a draw. But three months each year are dedicated to bigger draws for yet bigger prizes. Largest and, incidentally, most popular of all the draws is the Xmas lottery “Elgordo”, while the two other special draws are in January – “El Nio” – and in summer (“San Ildefonso”). Unlike other lottery systems, the Elgordo Lottery uses balls with five digits printed on each ranging from 00,000 to 84,999. One ball is drawn from each of two bowls; the first selection indicates the winner, while the second determines the prize value.
Interested in entering this draw? You have two basic choices; first, you can purchase a full ticket, called a “serie”. There is also a cheaper option; called a “décimo” which is worth one tenth of a full ticket. Neither option is especially cheap, though, and obviously neither has better odds of being one of the one in six winning tickets. Because of this the Euromillions Euro Lottery has additionally provided an e-lottery system.
Everyone’s guaranteed to win a prize when participating in the e-lottery system. You will automatically be assigned a team following your buy into the Elgordo Lottery syndicate. Each team is assigned an identifying number from zero to nine, the last digit of the winning number in the draw being used to identify the team which will receive the payoff. Every member will receive an even share of the money. Before the next lottery, the syndicate once again sells subscriptions and the e-lottery continues. The concept of sharing the pots is cause for concern for some players. What you need to keep in mind is that when the initial amount is 2.6 billion Euros, a share is still a considerable sum of money. As you’re guaranteed to win once a month, the syndicate is both less of a worry and more affordable. There is absolutely no better return.
